Thank you for visiting my page, that means I have your attention :-) So let me now tell you about Snowball Express and why this organization means so much to me. Snowball Express is an organization that supports Gold Star Families. What is a Gold Star Family you ask? A Gold star child is a child who has lost a parent while serving our country in the military. A Gold Star wife/husband has lost a spouse.
So now you know what a Gold Star Family is, so now let me tell you about Snowball Express. This organization was started in 2006 to honor and support the families of fallen soldiers. Every year they bring them all together for an all expense paid trip of fun and healing. American Airlines donates 10 planes and flies families from all over the US and even other countries to bring them to Dallas for an amazing 4 day trip. They are treated like royalty. They are escorted by local law enforcement and The AMAZING Patriot guard all over the city for fun activities. They SHUT DOWN the highways for 45 buses filled with children and spouses. They only shut down the highways for 2 reasons, the President AND SNOWBALL EXPRESS. People line the streets and overpasses holding up signs and flags. We want these kids to know that they are not forgotten, their parents sacrifice is not forgotten and most of all they are not alone. For these kids and spouses to be able to be with others that "get it" without having to speak is the greatest therapy they can get. These families make life long friends.
So now you know about Snowball Express, let me tell you why it means so much to me. In 2008 my Brother in Law CW2 Corry Edwards was killed in a helicopter crash in Iraq. He left behind an amazing wife and 2 amazing boys. They were 7 and 9 years old when they lost their dad. They have been a part of the Snowball Express family since 2008. The first year they went, it was in California. They were only 3 months out from losing their dad when they got to experience this trip. It was a great experience for them and it helped in the healing process. In 2009 they moved the event to Dallas, I was so excited to sign up to be a volunteer for this event. I loved being a part of this organization that personally helped my family. I was so happy to be able to give back and be apart of this. I have been a volunteer at this event ever since, and ever year my heart swells with love for these families. To see all the smiles on the faces, the tears, the healing, all of it is amazing to watch and I am so grateful I get to be apart of it. I hate that each year there are new families with new losses, but I am thankful that they get to become apart of this amazing family that wraps its healing arms around them and helps comfort them and show them how much they are loved.
We want to make sure no family is left behind, so that is why I have started this fundraising page. For every $500 raised, it guarantees a child will get to attend. I would love to be able to raise at least $500, but obviously the more the better. So please give if you can, or share this with your friends, get the word out about Snowball Express, and lets make sure year after year these kids get 4 days of fun and happiness. Nothing will ever take away the pain they have endured, but we can help make it a little better for a little while. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and thank you for your Support!!!!!
For every $500 you raise, you make it possible for one child (or family member) to attend our national gathering in December. So, if you raise $1,000, you made it possible for a child and her surviving mom to attend this life changing experience. Just a small donation will go a long way to helping me meet my goal for Snowball Express.
